Go Green with Cool Roof Colored Shingles
Wednesday, October 22, 2008GAF/ELK Shingles now have highly reflective granules embedded in the top of their roof shingles. It may reduce energy consumption by up to 8% by reducing air conditioning loads. The new granules on these shingles slows heat build-up by reflecting the sun's rays.

Cool Roof-Title 24 Compliance for Commercial and Residential Roofing
Flat roof technology has made huge strides in minimizing our environmental footprint. If your flat roof on either your commercial building or home is past its serviceable life-cycle, you should consider complying with the California Energy Commission’s Title 24 guidelines by re-roofing with a Cool Roof. Cool Roofs are manufactured from recyclable materials that in light colors, will reflect the sun’s energy while allowing the emission of infrared energy. These roofs reduce the roof surface temperature by as much as 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Reduction of heat conduction into the internal building space reduces energy costs, improves occupant comfort, and lowers overall maintenance costs. By incorporating Cool Roof technologies into your next new or retrofit flat roof, you can obtain Title 24 performance credits, and help reduce urban heat islands that are associated with smog in addition to increasing overall energy efficiency of your home or building.
Proper roof ventilation
Homeowners, when choosing a roofing contractor to install a new roof for you, make sure that your roofing contractor is installing new ventilation that meet the current code requirements. If your house was built 15 to 20 years ago, or more, it is not going to have the adequate ventilation to meet the current code requirements. The current code for San Diego is one square foot of ventilation for every 150 square feet of attic floor space.
Before you choose a roofing company-Important
Monday, October 20, 2008How long has the company been in business?
If a company has made it 10-years there's an excellent chance for continued success. This is critical, remember most roofing warranties are for 10, 15 or 20 years or more. The warranty is only as good as long as the company that installed your roof stays in business.

Title 24
While most cities in California don't enforce it, the State of California has mandated that all commercial, industrial and HOA roofs must achieve the minimum reflective requirements as mandated by Title 24. California has always been a leader in energy efficiency, and now it is up to the county and city building departments throughout the state to enforce the law. In 2009, the law will add and include all residential roof construction as well. Preparing now before you build or re-roof your next roof will save you money, help the environment, and avoid any undue fines or obstacle with the building permit process.
Why is Longevity as Roofing Contractor Important?
How long has the roofing company that you are considering been in business? This is very important as the rule of thumb is, if a company has made it 10 years, there's an excellent chance for continued business statistically. This is critical as roofing warranties are for 10, 15, 20 years or more. Your warranty will only be as good for as long as the company that installed your roof, stays in business.

Solar Communities
Sunday, October 19, 2008In a landmark Assembly bill signed by Governor Schwarzenegger within the last two weeks, Homeowner Associations ideally with 50 or more units may qualify for free photovoltaic solar panels. Along with Open Energy, Eagle Roofing Products and Patriot Roofing, a Carlsbad, CA based contractor, there now exists a strategic opportunity for HOA's to save as much as 25% on their re-roofing costs as a result of displacing roofing tile with photovoltaic Solar Save Tiles by Open Energy, Corp. Initial reaction from local Community Managers and HOA board members has been extremely positive.
