Energy Efficient Roofing
Alternative to Hot Mop/Tar and Gravel Roofing
Thursday, September 10, 2009
On commercial buildings in San Diego County, many builiding owners and property managers choose a Hot Mop system to re-roof or re-pair their existing roof. Why?... cost, and most of the time, that's the only reason. Toxic fumes, gases, spillage, and bodily harm are all reasons why our company stays away from intalling Hot Mop roofing.
We believe there are environmentally friendly alternatives at prices lower than Hot Mop roofs. Take for example, our 'Cool Roof Coating', white reflective system. This roofing application can go over the existing Built-Up roofs and provide the owner with a sound investment in leak protection, durability, as well as a reduction in heat transfer (equating to lower HVAC bills). In a nutshell, our 'Cool Roof Coating' is an Elastomeric Acrylic Coating that; meets Title 24 Standards, is Cool Roof Compliant, Energy Star Rated, Class A Fire Rated, and come with a 5-10 year guarantee.
If you're looking for an upgraded membrane product, Thermo-polyolefin (TPO) is the way to go. TPO is the fastest-growing segment in the commercial roofing industry. TPO is Cool Roof Compliant, Energy Star Rated, meets Title 24 Standards, meets LEED Certification requirements, resists ponding water, and comes with 10 and 20 year warranties. TPO is definitely more expensive than Hot Mop roofing, but the return on investment far exceeds that of the alternatively cheaper systems. TPO reduces your carbon footprint because it is non-toxic, it reflects the sun's rays, and can be recycled at the end of it's life.
These are two products we recommend as an alternative to Hot Mop systems... we're always here to educate you in your decision process so please contact us for a complimentary consultation.
