Is Your Roof Wind-Damaged?

It’s rare for homeowners to need a  roof repair  service for wind damage. Class A roofs (the lowest rating in terms of wind resistance) are capable of weathering up to 60 mph winds with little or no damage. However, exceptionally strong wind forces, like those whipped up by Hurricane Zeta in southern areas of Oklahoma, can push your roof to its limits.

Wind damage can be difficult to spot. This makes them particularly dangerous because homeowners often don’t know their roof has been damaged by high winds until the problem becomes more serious and severe. Let our experts at Patriot Roofing LLC explain some of the most common signs that can tell you your roof has developed some wind-related issues.

Lifted Shingles

Once the storm passes and the weather is safe, visually inspect your  roofing  system from the ground. Pay close attention to your shingles, particularly the edges opposite the end where they are nailed to the roof. These edges can sometimes get lifted or raised by strong winds. This leads to cracking and, in the worst cases, getting the entire shingle to be blown completely off.

Visible Damage

Still from the ground, look at how the roof looks as a whole. If winds are strong enough, the forces can sometimes lift objects and throw them at your roof. You want to look for large scratches or scrapes where debris has raked over your shingles. Contact your local roofing company to address any visible impact damage on your roof.

Vents and Gutters

Your  gutter installation  is also not safe during strong winds. Inspect them for dents or sagging problems and call for repairs as soon as you spot obvious signs of damage.  Your ridge and soffit vents can also be damaged by strong wind forces and this could indicate that your roof has incurred damage to its interiors.
